Rather than buying a new or used Matias Half-QWERTY Half-Keyboard, install one of the software alternatives below. You will be able to use the Half-Keyboard layout with any physical keyboard. Emulate the one-handed typing technique using your laptop keyboard, your favorite USB keyboard, or even a wireless keyboard.
Mac OS X (Apple)
Mirror-QWERTY
Hold spacebar to “mirror” the keyboard and access keys normally typed by the other hand. This free Half-Keyboard alternative is available on the Mac App Store.
One-Hand Keyboard
No need to hold spacebar to differentiate between characters. Simply touch-type the keys and the app will figure out which word you meant to type. Faster and easier to learn. Free demo available on the Mac App Store.
Windows PC
Half-QWERTY: AutoHotkey
AutoHotkey version of the one-handed Half-QWERTY layout. Downloadable as a .ahk script or stand-alone executable file.
One-Hand Keyboard
Windows version of the predictive text one-handed typing layout. No need to hold spacebar to differentiate between characters. Simply touch-type the keys and the app will figure out which word you meant to type.
Linux
MirrorBoard
Linux version of the Half-Keyboard layout. Created by Randall Munroe, author of webcomic XKCD.

Many thanks for this information. Our school was about to purchase a new Matias keyboard for one of our users. We were shocked at the $600 dollar price tag.
This really helps a lot!
